Rulmeca TOP rollers tackle highly corrosive environments
During years, Rulmeca has improved its global leading position in bulk handling sector. Every day, our products are employed by many industrial fields which require the use of reliable and premium quality components for the realization of belt conveyors, since they operate in critic and aggressive conditions. The complete range of products by Rulmeca includes highly corrosion resistant components.
Corrosive impact of marine environment
System requirements of all industrial sectors depend on many factors, among which the operating environment plays an essential role. In industries using conveyor systems for bulk materials, critic and aggressive conditions are not just heavy loads transportation or extremely high or low temperatures. Indeed, many environments are constantly exposed to highly corrosive agents.
Marine environment is an example of the importance of corrosion problem, which is a crucial factor in the choice of components for a conveyor system in many industrial applications. In particular, what makes the marine environment highly corrosive and damaging for the functioning of single components and of the whole system is the presence of high humidity and salt water. As a result, the installation of conveyor systems offshore or near the sea needs the use of highly water and corrosion resistant components, able to ensure high performance for a long time.
Benefits of TOP rollers
Industries which provide for the installation of conveyor systems offshore or nearby the sea call Rulmeca and rely on thermoplastic TOP rollers, which are specifically designed and manufactured to tackle corrosive agents of the most aggressive environments, including marine environment.
Anticorrosive thermoplastic material
Rulmeca TOP rollers are the ideal replacements for metal rollers in highly corrosive and humid environments such as marine environment, since they do not rust. Except for the ball bearing and the shaft, Rulmeca TOP rollers are totally manufactured with thermoplastic polymer. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) gives a high resistance to chemical agents and corrosion and a low level of abrasion. This implies a higher wear resistance and a longer life of the roller itself and of the conveyor, resulting in a lower maintenance of the whole plant.
Low noise level
Another benefit of the design of TOP rollers is the ability of polymers to absorb noise and vibrations. Therefore, thanks to their low noise emissions, these rollers are perfect applications where low noise operations are necessary.
Self-cleaning surface
Self-cleaning roller surface prevents the build-up of material on the shell, which is the main cause of belt miss-tracking, and it guarantees a reduction of spillage of the transported material from the belt.
Energy saving
Another feature which distinguishes and makes TOP rollers more convenient than metal rollers is their lower weight. This implies a lower power consumption during start and stop operations of the conveyor system and therefore the reduction of power requirements on the plant. Moreover, the lightness of TOP rollers allows for easier transportation, mounting and maintenance, especially in applications where mounting or replacement of rollers might be critical, due to suspended belt conveyor, difficult access, long conveyors and so on.

SUCCESS STORY
Replacement of metal rollers with Rulmeca TOP rollers
The Italian company Mec Handling called Rulmeca for the supply of more than 10.000 TOP rollers to be installed on the whole offshore conveyor system of GPIC Bahrain for reception, stockpiling, reclaiming and ship loading of urea. Rulmeca thermoplastic rollers have been assembled as a replacement of the existing metal rollers, in order to ensure a high resistance to the corrosion of the marine environment.
